Bryan David Vig. was born on August 2, 1955. He came from Viroqua, Wisconsin, U.S. His parents are Dr. DeVerne and Betty Vig a music teacher, in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Butch has two siblings, Chris and Lisa. He acquired the nickname Butch as a child.

He is a song writer, record producer, also remix Instruments like Drums. He started at the year of  1978.
He enrolled at the University of Wisconsin to study film direction, where he first met Steve Marker. Butch contributed several soundtrack pieces to low-budget films, including one song on Slumber Party Massacre, a Hollywood B-movie.

When he produced the Smashing Pumpkins’ Gins and Nirvana’s Nevermind in 1991, this became his first high profile production work. He incorporated overdubs sand vocal double tracking. Before that he had produced mostly smaller punk rock bands such as Killdozer and The Other Kids.

Cobain would later criticize Vig for the album’s slickness, although this might be due to Andy Wallace’s mixing of the album. But in a MTV interview in the year of 1993, Cobain said that Butch Vig recorded the album perfectly. And Billy Corgan welcomed Vig’s elaborate production on the Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream. This album met with great commercial and critical reception, also breaking another indie band into the mainstream.

On the sixth album of Jimmy Eat World, Vig work with them. Chase The Light was released in October 2007.
Butch Vig is currently drummer of the popular rock group Garbage, who has released the albums Garbage (1995).  With Steve Marker (guitar player of Garbage) he also owns Smart Studios where artists such as Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage and Sonic Youth have recorded. Butch Vig was also in the bands Firetown and Spooner with Garbage guitarist Duke Erikson. He has also done soundtracks for two new movies these past few years. He composed and produced the soundtrack for the film “The Other Side”.

He also worked with Tom Gabel of Against Me! On his solo EP, ‘Heart Burns’. Shirley mason, lead singer of Garbage, revealed in a Carson Daly interview that Vig would be producing the 8th studio album by Green Day, 21Century Breakdown, which later won a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rock Album.

The single “Wheels” in 2009 Vig recorded two new tracks for the long awaited greatest hits release by the Foo Fighters and their planning to produce their follow up album.  With hardwork and determination, nothing is impossible.  Always be unique and have your own style, so it will be easy for your listener to distinguish your song from other artists.
